Joomla 1.6 is Finally here

Joomla 1.6 is the next generation of Joomla, the most popular Open Source Content Management System in the world. This page tells you about the status of development and where you can download files.

The broad goals of Joomla 1.6 are to:

  • * implement an expanded access control system;
  • * implement a nested categories solution;
  • * and standardise the way extensions are built using the MVC framework.

To achieve those things there is a lot of other ancillary work to be done, but those are the highlights of this new version.

Joomla’s has presented their alliance between publisher Person and Open Source Matters to release a series of books with Joomla! knowledge. The first book to be release will be The Official Joomla! Book which is schedule to be published in December 2010 and the second title Joomla! Explained: Your Step-by-Step Guide with a publishing date of early 2011.

A portion of the prociied will go back to the Joomla! Project.
